I managed to read over 1,200 pages last week? But I also have another 1200 that I would like to read for this month’s TBR. Again, lots of books that I absolutely can’t wait to read! Here’s what I’m currently up to:
Currently Reading:
To Sleep in A Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini
To Sleep in A Sea of Stars follows Kira, who discovers an alien relic during a survey mission on an uncolonized planet. But when the ancient dust around her begins to move, Kira’s ideas of First Contact aren’t what they seem.
I’m still in shock that I received an e-ARC of this book, and I’ve been so excited to read it! So far I’m loving the characters and I can’t wait to see how this story evolves. I only started this yesterday, and the only reason I put this down was because I was way too tired to continue – that’s usually a good sign for me!
Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall
Hood Feminism is all about the many issues covered under feminism that are rarely prioritized. It also discusses the lack of intersectionality in much of the mainstream feminist movement and how the lack of inclusion within the movement impacts marginalized groups. This book brings those issues to light and illustrates the importance of solidarity within in order for the feminist movement to benefit more people.
I’ve been taking my time with this book. There are so many subjects that Kendall explores that that really don’t get enough consideration by others. I’m three-quarters of the way through this book, but regardless, I’m still deeming this an essential read.
Recently Read:
Children of Time by Adrian Tchiavosky
The Children of Time duology follows the last of humankind and their quest to find a new planet to settle on as Earth is in ruins. They find a new planet that seems perfectly crafted for humankind. Little do they know that new masters have turned this planet from an ideal habitat to their worst nightmare.
I liked this book quite a bit! I liked the execution of both perspectives and how this book explores more than just picking a side. Although whose side your on is pretty clear by the end! I do wish the individual characters were a bit fleshed out more, but I did enjoy the themes explored in this book.
Children of Ruin by Adrian Tchaikovsky
Children of Ruin is the second book in the Children of Time duology. While terraforming the planet Nod thousands of years before the present, alien life is discovered. Scientists attempt to remove it by overwriting it with Earth’s data. But with the fall of humanity, with the planet only to be discovered thousands of years later, much of the lost information – and lifeforms – were disturbed, and awakened.
I didn’t like this book as much as the first one. The conflict that arises is fairly similar to the first book (although different themes are explored), and the way that the perspectives were written made this a little more confusing. Regardless, I’m glad I finally read these books!

Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power
Burn Our Bodies Down follows Margot, whose family as she knows it consists of her and her mother. She knows nothing else of her family history until she finds the name of her mother’s hometown and goes there to investigate. Margot wants to find out why she left, but she knows for sure that there’s something wrong regarding her past, and she may never be able to leave.
I’ve been hearing good things about this book! I also wanted to read this one towards the end of August because I thought it would be a good one to read going into fall. Given the size of To Sleep in A Sea of Stars I probably won’t be reading this one until the weekend, but it’s a weekend read I look forward to!

They may be long, but they are definitely binge-worthy and go by fast! The second one was still a three star read for me, but the arc was just similar enough to the first that it didn’t generate the same interest.
