Autumn is in full swing! Today I’ll be doing some apple and pumpkin picking and visiting some farmstands, and I’m loving the cooler weather for just about everything (including cozy reading)!

But although it’s still early in the month, I do feel a little bit behind on my reading! During my normal reading time I’ve been having some long distance calls with friends, so I haven’t been reading as much as I’d like to. Looks like it’s time to shift around when I read a bit to accomodate!

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to this season. The #FBC Readathon is coming up this weekend as well, which means if all goes well I should have a lot of updates for next week!

But before we get there, here’s my reading progress for this week:

Currently Reading:

A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

A Little Life follows four college classmates who move to New York. Over time they navigate complexities and their own relationships, but they find that Jude has been struggling and continues to suffer, defined by the unspeakable traumas that defined his childhood and his adult life.

I only just started this book, and I have a feeling I’ll be reading it for a while (in a good way!) There’s so much depth to this book, even in just the first 50 pages I’ve read, so I want to make sure I have enough time with it to fully absorb it.

White Oleander by Janet Finch

Grown follows Enchanted Jones, an  aspiring singer spotted by legendary R&B singer Korey Fields during an audition. Fields appears to be Enchanted’s ticket to stardom – but this changes overnight. One morning, Enchanted wakes up with blood on her hands, and no memory of the previous night – and Korey Fields is dead.

I thought of this more as a mystery when I first found it, but I immediately realized upon starting this just what kinds of topics this book is going to explore. While it’s a fast-paced book now, I think it’s going to become hard-hitting very soon.

Now That I’ve Found You by Kristina Forest

Evie Jones, living in her grandmother’s footsteps, is going to be Hollywood’s next big star. That is, until she ends up blacklisted. Evie Jones has a plan – a public appearance with her grandmother, Gigi, will save her status. But days before the plan comes to fruition, Gigi disappears. Milo, the last person who Evie thinks will help, joins her mission to help find Gigi. And in that process, Evie learns a lot about Gigi – and herself.

I don’t read YA contemporaries that much anymore, but this one I’m really liking so far! I feel like I’ve been reading a lot of heavy books lately and I’ve been wanting to read a contemporary like this. It sounds like a fun adventure ahead!

Recently Read:

Forget this Ever Happened by Cassandra Rose Clarke

Claire isn’t happy to be spending her summer with her grandma in small town Indianola, but sooner than later, she discovers a remarkable creature. Even more remarkable is the fact that people who leave town seem to forget about the anomalies. And unless Claire can figure out what’s truly going on, she may never be able to leave.

I just took part in the blog tour for this book yesterday. This was a light mystery with a unique sci-fi twist! I really enjoyed the small-town 90’s setting as well. And despite the supernatural elements making things a bit difficult to predict (or being a bit light on development), I found myself not wanting to stop at each chapter.

Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi

Transcendent Kingdom follows Gifty, a fifth-year candidate in neuroscience and a Ghanian immigrant. Her brother, Nana, passed away due to an overdose when drug addiction followed a sports injury. Gifty’s mother is suicidal and lives in her bed. Gifty is surrounded by pain and suffering – and hopes to find the scientific reasoning behind it.

Review to come! I really liked the way this book explored the events that led up to Gifty’s present-day life and beliefs. There was a lot of interesting discussion regarding faith as well that I resonated with. I would definitely like to read Homegoing after reading this!

The Threat Below by Jason Latshaw

Three hundred years ago, a terrifying event nearly devastated humanity; the survivors living in the mountains above the clouds. When their water supply is being poisoned, an expedition, including Icelyn Brathius, must face the monsters that destroyed most of civilization centuries ago.

The author reached out to me and sent the first and second book – thank you! I’m looking forward into delving into some fantasy, especially with the cooler weather coming. I’m especially looking forward to reading about the encounter with the monsters!

That’s all for this week’s WWW Wednesday. Leave a comment if you participated this week too so I can read your post – or let me know what you’re currently reading below!
